Last night a group of friends and I went to one of the fabulous neighborhood Italian restaurants for our very first Spaghetti on the Board experience! Have you ever done this before? It was a completely new thing to me, and so much fun! Instead of eating your own portion from a plate, you share a gigantuous pile of spaghetti (with meatballs), that is placed in the center of a cutting board the size of your dining table. I have to admit that I was a little bit concerned about the “gross” factor when I read the description and saw some pictures, but in the end we all agreed it was way more fun than gross, and really not even that messy.
The evening began with a glass of Chianti, a bowl of salad and some garlic bread (which all come with the dinner) – yum! In order to prevent the tomato sauce from escaping the table, a wall of napkins was created along the sides.
Then came a huge bowl of spaghetti, followed by even huger meatballs! (you may not be able to tell from the pictures, but they really were enormous!). The heat made the board underneath bow upwards, so it looked like an elevated mountain of spaghetti and the sauce began streaming downhill.
You do get utensils, so all you do is pull your portion towards you – et voilà! For dessert they served cannoli, which were amazing! The entire meal was $15.95 (incl. wine, appetizer, dinner and dessert) and we left full and happy!
